Eleven artists felt a need for a place to show their art, so in June 1975 they (Helen Bratt, Esther Forsley, Nancy Louise Mottesheard, Ray McNamara, Milton Koslow, Barbara Blumberg, Jan Griffen, Rosalie Atkins and Hank Keeling.) got together and opened a co-operative to meet that need.
Gallery Eleven was small and modest, but staffed by the artists, so when you went there, an artist was always on hand willing to discuss their work and all the art hanging on the walls, a tradition that continues to this day.
In the beginning, paintings were the only available art form, but little by little they started taking wok on consignment basis and expanding into fine crafts like pottery, stained and blown glass, baskets and fine jewelry, among others, thus rounding out the media available for sale.
After 34 Years Gallery Eleven remains a great showplace for regional artists.
